Standard Packaging

Foil Card Packaging
DBOX SpecialityMetalized board with a mirror-finish silver or gold surface, printed with full CMYK directly on top. Where we lay white ink underneath, colours read true; where we do not, the metallic surface shines through. The result is a full-surface metallic effect that makes a product leap off the shelf — at a fraction of the cost of large-area hot foil stamping. Very few factories in Malaysia can print this way.

Label types explained
Three different jobs, three different tools — pick by what you need the label to actually do.
General Labels
Standard product and bottle labels on paper, vinyl or kraft, with waterproof options for cosmetics, food and drinks that meet moisture. The everyday branding sticker — inexpensive, fast, and effective when specified correctly.
Hologram Labels
Tamper-evident stickers carrying a shifting rainbow metallic pattern that is extremely hard to fake. A fast, powerful trust signal for products that attract counterfeiters — supplements, cosmetics, electronics. Custom holograms with your own logo are far stronger than the generic versions anyone can buy.
QR Code Labels
Scannable labels letting customers verify authenticity, read product information, redeem rewards or join your loyalty programme. Reward-linked codes reach far higher scan rates than verify-only codes, and every scan tells you who is buying and where — a label that markets and reports back, not just sticks.
Choosing the right packaging — what buyers ask most
What each product does, the mistakes we see repeatedly in the market, and the most cost-effective way to get it right based on what actually works in production.
What is a standard packaging box and what is it used for?
A standard box is a folding carton printed in full colour on art card with gloss or matte lamination — the everyday workhorse of product packaging, used for skincare, supplements, food, cosmetics and e-commerce. The most common mistake buyers make is choosing paper that is too thin to save cost, which leads to boxes crushing in transit. For most products we recommend 310-350gsm so the box arrives looking the way it left.
What is foil card (metalized) packaging and when should I use it?
Foil card uses a metalized board with a reflective silver or gold surface, printed with CMYK on top. Use it when your product competes on shelf appeal — skincare, perfume, premium supplements, festive hampers. The common misconception in the market is that a full metallic look requires expensive full-surface hot foil stamping. It does not. Our metalized board process delivers the same premium effect far more cheaply, which makes it the most cost-effective route to a luxury shelf presence.
What makes premium packaging 'premium', and is it worth the cost?
Premium packaging adds tactile and visual finishing: spot UV for glossy raised areas, hot foil stamping, embossing for raised texture, debossing for pressed-in texture, and soft-touch lamination for a velvety feel. These details signal quality before the box is even opened. Our honest cost advice: do not premium-finish the entire box. Apply spot UV or foil to your logo and key elements only — you capture most of the perceived value at a fraction of the cost.
What paper bag options exist and which is right for me?
Paper bags come in art paper (smooth and highly printable), kraft (natural, eco-leaning look) and ivory board (thick and premium). Handles can be PP rope, cotton rope, satin ribbon or die-cut. The recurring problem we see is a bag specified too flimsy for the product weight, so handles tear on the first outing. We match paper weight to your product — a boutique clothing bag and a heavy hamper bag need very different specs. Tell us what goes inside and we spec it properly.
What types of product labels and stickers can you print?
Product labels, bottle labels, seal stickers and promotional decals in any shape via custom die-cut, on art paper, mirrorkote, vinyl (waterproof), kraft or transparent material. The most common mistake is using plain paper labels on products exposed to moisture — cosmetics, food, drinks — where they smudge and peel. For those we recommend vinyl or laminated labels. Labels start from just 100 sheets, making them the fastest and lowest-commitment way to brand a product.
What is a hologram label and do I actually need one?
A hologram label is a tamper-evident sticker with a shifting rainbow metallic pattern that is extremely difficult to counterfeit. You need one if your product gets faked, if you sell through multiple retailers, or if consumers need an instant trust signal. It is most common on supplements, cosmetics, electronics accessories and premium food. We can produce custom holograms carrying your logo, which is a far stronger signal than the generic holograms anyone can buy off the shelf.
What is a QR code label and how does it help my business?
A QR code label lets customers scan with their phone to verify authenticity, read product information, redeem a promotion or join your loyalty programme — turning packaging into a marketing channel. The move most Malaysian brands miss is this: do not use a QR that only says “genuine”. Give the scanner a reward — a voucher, points, a lucky draw. Reward-linked codes get dramatically higher scan rates, and every scan tells you who is buying and where.
How do I choose the right box size for my product?
Measure your product's length, width and height, then add a few millimetres of clearance so it seats without forcing. If the product needs protection, factor in an insert or thicker card. Do not eyeball it — a box 3mm too small will not close, and one too large lets the product rattle and look cheap. Send us your product dimensions, or the product itself, and we will spec the exact box free before you order.
What is the difference between gloss, matte and soft-touch lamination?
Gloss is shiny and makes colours pop, ideal for food and vibrant brands, though it shows fingerprints. Matte is smooth and understated, reads premium and modern, and hides fingerprints well. Soft-touch feels velvety, almost like skin, and is the most premium option, common on luxury skincare and perfume. There is no universally best choice — it depends on brand personality. Order a sample kit and feel all three before deciding.
Why do my printed box colours look different from my screen design?
Screens display RGB colour made of light, while printing uses CMYK made of ink — different systems, so bright screen colours often print slightly darker. This is the single most common surprise for first-time buyers. The fix is to design in CMYK, specify Pantone codes for critical brand colours, and always approve a proof. Our pre-press team flags colour risks before printing; cheaper printers skip this step entirely, which is why buyers get “wrong colour” shocks.
What is 'bleed' and why does my artwork need it?
Bleed is extra artwork, usually 3mm, extended past the cut line so that if the cut shifts slightly there is no white edge. Artwork submitted without bleed is the number one reason files get rejected or boxes come out with white slivers along the edge. If that sounds technical, do not worry — our system checks for bleed automatically and our team fixes it with you before printing. You will never lose a production run to a file error on our watch.
Can I get a sample before placing a bulk order?
Yes, and you should. We offer sample kits so you can feel the paper, see the finishing and judge the colour before committing to a full run, and for custom designs we can produce a physical proof. The small cost and few days a sample takes can save you thousands — approving bulk production without one is the most expensive shortcut in packaging.
What is the most cost-effective way to order packaging?
Three things. First, order at the right quantity — unit price drops sharply above 1,000 pieces, but do not over-order stock you will warehouse for years. Second, apply premium finishing selectively rather than across the whole box. Third, reuse your die, because reorders with an existing die skip setup cost entirely. We will always tell you honestly which quantity tier suits your actual needs, not simply the biggest order we could push.
Are your inks and materials food-safe and Halal-friendly?
Yes. For food packaging we use food-grade inks and materials and can supply the relevant material documentation, and our processes are compatible with Halal product requirements. If you are packaging food, supplements or cosmetics that need compliance support, tell us upfront so we specify the right materials and provide supporting documents for your certification process.
Can you print information required by KKM or other regulators?
Yes, and we help you place it correctly. Supplements and food packaging in Malaysia need specific information — registration or notification numbers, ingredient lists, net weight, manufacturer details — and there are rules on legibility. Our pre-press team reviews your layout to check the required information is present and readable before printing. We are printers rather than regulatory consultants, so final compliance rests with you, but we make sure the print does not become your problem.
Which packaging works best for e-commerce shipping?
For e-commerce you are balancing two jobs: surviving the courier and creating a good unboxing moment. E-flute corrugated with a printed art card laminate gives structural strength with full-colour branding. Interior printing turns opening the parcel into a branded moment at very little extra cost. And because the box travels through many hands, a slightly heavier board almost always pays for itself in reduced damage claims and better reviews.
